Thierry Henry has announced his resignation as head coach of the France Under-21 team after leading the French men's football team to a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics. Although the 47-year-old former France striker was contracted to the team until next year, he chose to step down after just one year in the job for personal reasons. Henry said winning a silver medal at the Olympics for his country would be one of the greatest prides of his life. On the other hand, Ilkay Gundogan, the German midfielder, has announced his retirement from the national team at the age of 33 after making his debut for the German team in 2011 and scoring 19 goals in 82 appearances for the national team. Gundogan posted on social media that after several weeks of consideration, he had decided that now was the right time to end his internationa l career. He was very proud of playing 82 matches for his home country and captaining the team at Euro 2024, but also felt the physical and mental fatigue that had forced him to reconsider. There are also reports that Gundogan is set to leave his current club Barcelona and return to Premier League side Manchester City. While Yann Sommer, the number 1 goalkeeper of the Swiss national team, has also announced his retirement from international football at the age of 35 after representing the Swiss team a total of 94 times, playing in important tournaments, including three World Cups and three European Championships, after receiving his first opportunity in 2012.
