Heroic Rescue Effort Saves Man Stranded by Floodwaters in Phayao Province

Phayao: Officials braved the strong currents to rescue a man stranded in the floodwaters of Ban Mhun; he is now safe. According to Thai News Agency, the flooding in Pong District, Phayao Province, is beginning to subside after the rain stopped, but water is still flowing into low-lying areas. Meanwhile, officials braved strong currents to rescue a man stranded in the floodwaters.

A man was stranded in the forest near Ban Mhun cemetery, Na Prang Subdistrict, Pong District, Phayao Province, after a rapid influx of water from upstream areas caused water levels to rise in several locations and create strong currents, making it impossible to cross or return to the community. Rescuers rushed to the scene amidst intermittent rain, using drones to deliver ropes and waiting for water levels to recede before sending officers into the strong currents to help. They successfully brought the stranded man to safety, bringing great relief to everyone.

While the flood situation in Pong District is beginning to ease, particularly in Ngim and Oi subdistricts where water levels are continuously receding, water from the Ngim and Khuan rivers is still overflowing its banks and flooding agricultural areas. Currently, the floodwaters are converging in Na Prang and Pong subdistricts, reaching high levels. This water will drain into the Yom River, which will then travel to Phrae Province. Meanwhile, downstream areas in Chiang Muan District remain on high alert. Officials from various agencies are assisting residents in moving and relocating belongings to safety.

Mr. Somsak Kaewsena, Deputy Governor of Phayao Province, stated that the province is fully monitoring the situation and has issued continuous warnings, resulting in minimal damage. Water levels are now receding, and if there is no further rainfall, the situation should return to normal soon.
