Historic First: Thai King Embarks on Landmark Visit to China

Bangkok: For the first time in Thai history, His Majesty the King is set to visit China, marking a significant milestone in Thai-Chinese relations. This unprecedented visit is noteworthy as it is the first time a Thai monarch has traveled to China. The Prime Minister has underscored that the visit will not include any external discussions, highlighting its ceremonial nature.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul provided insights into his responsibilities as Minister of Honor during the official visit of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen to the People’s Republic of China from November 13-17, 2025. He explained that it is customary for a government official to accompany a head of state on foreign visits in the capacity of Minister of Honor. In this instance, the King has appointed the Prime Minister and Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to join the royal entourage.

In response to inquiries regarding other potential discussions with China, the Prime Minister clarified that there would be no additional talks, as the visit is solely part of the royal motorcade. This trip is seen as a ceremonial gesture rather than a diplomatic mission.

The Prime Minister reflected on the historical context of the visit, noting that it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China. While the formal diplomatic ties are five decades old, the relationship between the two countries has roots extending back several centuries. His Majesty’s visit is seen as a symbolic reaffirmation of the longstanding connection between Thailand and China.
