House Committee To Invite Speaker Sophon Over Powers Curtailment Concerns

Bangkok:The House Committee on Legal Affairs is set to invite Speaker Sophon Saram to discuss concerns over the curtailment of the committee's powers. This move comes despite a request by Natchanon Srikornguek, a member of the committee, to withdraw a resolution which is deemed to have no impact.

According to Thai News Agency, Rangsiman Rome, the Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights, announced that the committee will address this issue in its agenda next week. The committee plans to examine the working methods of its 35 committees to identify any potential illegal, unconstitutional, or regulatory violations. Invitations have been extended to Mr. Sophon Saram, the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, the Deputy Secretary-General, and other relevant officials for clarification.

In response to Mr. Natchanon Srikornguek's recent request to reverse the committee's resolution for himself, which was submitted on November 4th, Mr. Rome clarified that the request would not alter the resolution. Despite the acknowledgment of the request in the meeting on November 5th, the resolution remains unchanged. Furthermore, regarding the absence of government-represented committee members in several meetings, Mr. Rome emphasized that many members, including those from various parties such as Kla Tham, Prachachart, Pheu Thai, and Bhumjaithai, have attended meetings as usual. Moving forward, Mr. Rome has instructed that any committee member not attending meetings without a written leave request will be considered absent, with the requirement for a written leave of absence being enforced.
