Flash Floods Cause Panic in Sukhirin District, Narathiwat Province

Sukhirin:Flash floods hit Sukhirin District in Narathiwat Province during the night, causing damage and panic among residents. The incident occurred after heavy rainfall inundated the communities, particularly in Ban To Mo and Ban Chum Thong, where floodwaters surged through homes.

According to Thai News Agency, the heavy rain began at approximately 830 PM on November 4, 2026, in the Phukhaothong Subdistrict, leading to flash floods that affected areas including Moo 3, Ban Toh Moh, and Moo 6, Ban Chum Thong. The floods originated from higher ground, causing partial damage to homes and belongings as the waters overflowed into residential areas.

The situation has raised concerns, especially among residents living at the foot of mountains, in low-lying areas, and along waterways. Continuous heavy rainfall could further exacerbate the flooding by adding to the existing water levels. District Chief Mr. Pichit Rungprasert has warned residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant, although there are currently no confirmed reports on the extent of the damage or the number of affected households.

Residents are urged to stay informed through official announcements and warnings from the government and the Meteorological Department. They are advised to avoid traveling through areas with strong currents, to move belongings to higher ground, and to evacuate immediately if water levels rise rapidly to ensure safety.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted thunderstorms for November 5, 2026, across 60% of the eastern coast of southern Thailand, with heavy rainfall expected in some areas, including Narathiwat Province. The situation is expected to worsen from November 7-9, 2026, with increased rainfall and a higher risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in hillside areas and near waterways.
