Intercepting illegal imports, seizing over 800 items of evidence

Central Investigation Bureau intercepts illegal imported goods, seizes over 800 items worth 20 million baht. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) by the Highway Police Division (Hwy.), Pol. Lt. Col. Chatchai Hemwilai, Superintendent of Highway Police Division 1, Sub-Division 4, Highway Police Division, together with Highway Police Division 1, Sub-Division 4, Highway Police Division, seized 3 ten-wheel trucks with goods, consisting of: 1. Hino ten-wheel truck, driven by Mr. Montree; 2. Hino ten-wheel truck, driven by Mr. Phongsakorn; 3. Hino ten-wheel truck, driven by Mr. Chanapol. The goods were imported from abroad, totaling 846 items. The seized goods were located on Highway No. 299, km. 19-20, Tambon Phai, Mueang District, Kalasin Province. This was after the Highway Police of Somdet Service Unit performed their duty and discovered 3 ten-wheel trucks driving in line from Somdet District. Heading towards Kalasin Province, the vehicle was loaded with goods. The officers therefore asked to inspect the g oods being loaded. Initial inspection found that the packaging was from China. Later, customs officers were invited to join the initial inspection at Highway Police Station 1, Division 4, Highway Police Division (Roi Et). The inspection found products believed to have not passed customs procedures, electrical appliances without TIS, products that were trademarks of others, controlled products under the Hazardous Substances Act, as well as foreign liquor and cigarettes under the Excise Act, and dialysis products that must be under quality control under the Food and Drug Act, as well as hundreds of miscellaneous products that did not pass customs procedures, such as car accessories, electronic devices, etc. Officers seized the products and sent them to investigators and customs to proceed according to legal procedures. The three truck drivers were questioned and they stated that they received the goods from the Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge and would deliver them to a warehouse in the central region, and were p aid per trip. However, the employer did not provide any documents related to the goods to the drivers. The police will pursue those involved and prosecute them according to the law for violations of the Customs Act, the Excise Act, the Industrial Product Standards Act, the Trademark Act, and the Food and Drug Act.
