Japan begins releasing 2nd round of Fukushima wastewater.

Japan begins the second round of wastewater releases from the Fukushima nuclear power plant today.

A spokesman for Tokyo Electricity Company (TEPCO) said the water release began at 10:18 a.m. today in Japan time, corresponding to 8:18 a.m. today in Thailand time. It is the second round of wastewater release after the first round was released on August 24 and completed on September 11, and will release the same amount of 7,800 tons as the first round. Out of a total of 1.34 million tonnes of water accumulated at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Since the earthquake and tsunami damaged the reactor on March 11, 2011, the full release of the wastewater is expected to take decades to complete.

Tepco confirmed that The wastewater has been filtered out of all radioactive substances. Except tritium is at safe levels. The reason the water must be released is to clear the wastewater storage tank from the power plant. To be able to move dangerous radioactive fuel and damaged remains inside the power plant. China has banned all seafood imports from Japan since the first round of wastewater releases. And there are reports that Russia is considering banning the import of seafood from Japan as well.
