Yangon: A jealous husband has been arrested and taken to the scene for a reenactment of a crime where he brutally beat his wife to death with a coconut broom handle in their abandoned house, in front of their 4-year-old son. Tearfully, he confessed that he didn't intend to kill her, but was angry because she wouldn't tell him about the abuse.
According to Thai News Agency, police investigators from Udon Thani City Police Station escorted Mr. Narongrit, 52, to reenact the crime at an abandoned village in a housing development project near the Nong Prachak Silpakom canal in Mak Khaeng Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District. He is accused of brutally assaulting his wife, Mrs. Kanthima, 48, by repeatedly striking her head with a coconut broom more than ten times, resulting in her death, in front of their young son.
Before the reenactment, Mr. Narongrit paid respects and apologized at the spot where his wife was found dead, tearfully explaining that he didn't intend to kill her and that he loved her regardless. He then reenacted his confession. Following the incident, Mr. Narongrit discarded the broom out the window and informed bystanders of his wife's death. Authorities were alerted on the night of January 23rd about a woman's mysterious death at an abandoned house, where a young son was found beside the body. The incident was reported by Mr. Narongrit himself. Initially, during questioning, the husband denied any involvement, claiming he had gone out to buy food and returned to find an unknown man, possibly a drug user, attacking his wife with a stick. However, his statement was contradicted by his 4-year-old son, who stated he witnessed his father assaulting his mother with a broomstick and was ignored when he tried to intervene. This testimony led authorities to conclude that Mr. Narongrit was indeed the perpetrator .
Faced with overwhelming evidence and his child's testimony, Mr. Narongrit was compelled to confess. The motive was linked to stress and anger after hearing from a friend that his wife had been raped and had not disclosed it to him. When questioned, her silence triggered a violent reaction from him. He maintains that he did not intend to harm her. Initially, he has been charged with assault resulting in death.
