Thai Election Commission Observes U.S. Elections and Referendums

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand is actively monitoring the general elections and referendums taking place in the United States. This observation is part of the commission's efforts to oversee electoral processes conducted outside the Kingdom of Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission dispatched a team to the United States on January 22nd, led by Mr. Lertwiroj Kowattana and Mr. Sitthichot Intrawises. The U.S. elections are noted for having the second highest number of registered voters and overseas referendum participants, following Australia.

An online meeting was organized by the Election Commission with representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Royal Thai Consulate-Generals in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. Representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver, Canada, also participated. The meeting aimed to discuss the challenges faced while conducting elections abroad, with a particular focus on the concurrent referendum. The process was reported to have proceeded smoothly.

Additionally, the Election Commission observed the management and sorting of ballot envelopes for both the general election and the referendum, as well as the handling of returned ballots from voters. Notably, the Consulate-General in Los Angeles is tasked with overseeing 13 states, which have the highest number of registered voters for these elections and referendums in the United States.
