Jellybean the Pygmy Hippo Set to Rival Thailand’s Bouncing Pig for Cutest Animal Crown

Arizona: 'Jellybean,' the newest pygmy hippo member at the zoo, might be a competitor to 'Bouncing Pig.' Jellybean, the new star attraction at a zoo in Arizona, is poised to challenge Thailand's bouncy pig for the title of cutest animal.

According to Thai News Agency, Jellybean is a new pygmy hippo at Wildlife World Zoo in Arizona, whose official name was revealed on February 23rd. She is the first offspring of mother Lollipop and father Tootsie Roll. The name Jellybean won an overwhelming 81.3% of the public vote, beating other sweet-themed names like Cadbury, Twixi, and Taffy-all names of chocolate candies.

When Jellybean was born, she weighed only about 5 kilograms, but now she has grown to 15 kilograms. Jellybean's birth is considered a major conservation achievement, as pygmy hippos are an endangered species with very small wild populations. They are many times smaller than regular hippopotamuses. Pygmy hippos became known worldwide in 2024 thanks to the "bouncing pig" phenomenon, a baby pygmy hippo at Khao Kheow Zoo in Chonburi Province, Thailand.
