Kanchanaburi:Heavy rain hit Kanchanaburi province for over three hours, leading to widespread flooding across the city. In some areas, water levels rose above one meter, although they have mostly returned to normal as of this morning.
According to Thai News Agency, the Mueang Kanchanaburi district experienced flash floods that submerged the bypass road yesterday, rendering it impassable for both main road vehicles and smaller tourist vehicles, causing severe traffic congestion. Provincial authorities worked to drain the flooded areas, and by around 1100 PM, conditions improved enough for some vehicles to pass. However, certain smaller cars suffered engine damage due to water ingress and had to be abandoned.
This morning, reports indicate that most areas affected by the rain have largely returned to normal, with only some localized flooding remaining. Small vehicles can now navigate through the previously inundated areas, and it is expected that conditions will fully normalize today.
In response to the flooding, shops in the city center used sandbags to minimize damage. Merchants remarked that they had never witnessed such flooding in their 40 years of business, noting that just three hours of rain had caused significant flooding.
