Khon Kaen: The last day of Songkran saw the residents of Khon Kaen come together to honor their deceased relatives and seek blessings for good fortune, as they prepared to return to their everyday lives.

According to Thai News Agency, April 15 marks Wan Theling Sok, the final day of Songkran and the commencement of the new Chula Era in Thailand. In Khon Kaen, both locals and tourists gathered at Wat Nong Waeng, a royal temple, to engage in merit-making activities. These activities included pouring water on the Buddha image in front of the temple’s 9-storey pagoda and offering alms to monks. A significant aspect of these rituals was the dedication of merit to deceased relatives, a tradition embraced by many families, like the Phothirukh family, who reunited from various provinces to honor their ancestors.

The scene at Khon Kaen Bus Terminal 3 was bustling as some residents began their journeys back to work. Mr. Piya Yoma, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, was present to oversee the operations, ensuring the readiness of public buses and drivers. Despite the lively atmosphere at the terminal, traffic on Mittraphap Road through Khon Kaen city remained light, allowing vehicles to travel at high speeds. Notably, the past four days have seen a marked improvement in accident prevention compared to the previous year, with significant reductions in accident occurrences, injuries, and fatalities.
