Bangkok: A spectacular unveiling of the Khon performance by the Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts, titled "Sita," has been announced, promising an engaging retelling of the Ramakien epic's Sita episode from November 5 to December 10. Tickets, which have been on sale since August 12, have seen an enthusiastic response, with over 80% already sold, prompting additional performances to meet demand.
According to Thai News Agency, the Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts under Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, held a press conference to announce the launch of the Khon performance of "Ramayana: Sita" at the Royal Palace Theatre, Sanam Suea Pa, Dusit District. The performances will be hosted at the Thailand Cultural Centre and will feature new techniques and entertainment elements, while staying true to the original text by King Rama I. The story of Sita, born of purity, explores themes of love, separation, and her quest to prove her purity, showcasing her loyalty and devotion to Rama.
The initiative commemorates the benevolent grace and continues the royal aspirations of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Her Majesty laid the foundation for reviving and preserving the national art of Khon, traditional Thai masked dance-drama, alongside conserving Thai craftsmanship. This revival includes creating sets, props, costumes, and masks, fostering a platform for learning and transmitting knowledge to nurture new generations of artists. The initiative also commemorates Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 4th cycle birthday anniversary, with the royal family continuing to uphold and develop this high art form.
Tickets are available at all Thai Ticket Major branches, priced at 2,000 baht, 1,800 baht, 1,000 baht, 800 baht, and 600 baht, with a special student rate of 200 baht. Due to the overwhelming demand, an extra public performance has been scheduled for November 11, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Thailand Cultural Centre. Tickets for this additional performance go on sale today at 10:00 AM at all Thai Ticket Major branches.
