Korn Chatikavanij Highlights the Vital Role of Bangkok City Council Members

Bangkok: Korn Chatikavanij, deputy leader of the Democrat Party, has underscored the crucial role of Bangkok City Council members in bridging the gap between the public and the executive branch. According to Thai News Agency, Korn emphasized that these council members are key representatives who listen to the public's issues and convey them to the appropriate authorities. He stressed the importance of selecting candidates who maintain close connections with the community, ensuring that their concerns are effectively addressed.

Korn shared a personal anecdote on his Facebook page, reflecting on his initial lack of understanding about the role of Bangkok City Council members when he first ran for Member of Parliament twenty-one years ago. He acknowledged that City Council members play a significant role in addressing the daily problems faced by Bangkok residents, sometimes even more so than the governor. By acting as intermediaries, they ensure that local issues such as road repairs and malfunctioning streetlights are promptly addressed.

He expressed concerns about some younger City Council members who have confined their roles to legislative functions, becoming detached from the people they serve. Korn argued that effective legislative work requires a deep connection with the community. The Democrat Party, he revealed, is committed to selecting candidates who prioritize closeness to the public, ensuring that their voices are heard and acted upon.
