Labor Unions Call for Suspension of PTT EP’s Petroleum Platform Project

Bangkok: A letter has been submitted to the government instructing PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTT EP) to suspend the construction of petroleum production platforms. Representatives from the Petroleum and Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT PAT) have expressed concerns over potential foreign influence and relocation of production bases.

According to Thai News Agency, a group representing the Federation of Thai Labor Unions for Development (FTLU), led by Mr. Manas Kosol, along with other labor representatives, submitted a letter to Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. They requested the Cabinet to suspend the “Bundled Phase 4” petroleum production platform construction project of PTT EP, valued at over 28 billion baht.

The request arises from findings that the main contract is about to be awarded to a Chinese state-owned enterprise, with nearly 100 percent of PTT EP’s production base potentially being moved abroad. The suspension aims to prevent potential losses and safeguard domestic interests. Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, received the letter on behalf of the government to be forwarded to the relevant authorities.
