Chiang mai: The Mae Kha Canal in Chiang Mai, once a vital auspicious symbol since the city's founding over 700 years ago, had deteriorated into a heavily polluted waterway due to community wastewater. Over the last 15 years, a concerted effort by various organizations and local residents has transformed the canal's polluted waters into clean, vibrant waterways as part of the Mae Kha Canal Development Project.
According to Thai News Agency, the project was initiated to revitalize this historically significant canal. The efforts have not only improved the water quality but have also enhanced the surrounding landscape, creating new landmarks along the canal. These changes aim to draw tourists to experience and appreciate the beauty of the canal-side community, breathing new life into an area once marred by neglect.
