According to Thai News Agency, tensions have risen along the Thai-Myanmar border after a large number of heavily armed Myanmar soldiers opened fire late last night into this morning on rebel soldiers along the Moei River on the Thai-Myanmar border, opposite Mae Kon Kaen Village, Village No. 2, Mahawan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province. Six unidentified grenades fell across the border and landed on the Thai side of the border. Thai soldiers fired four warning shots. Initially, six houses were damaged, but no one was injured. Mae Kon Kaen School, located near the clash site, announced the indefinite cancellation of classes this morning, as war shells landed at the school several days ago. Officials are deploying reinforcements along the border in Mae Sot District to protect Thailand’s sovereignty 24/7.
