Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has opened its market to import Thai pork worth 4 billion baht, a move expected to help absorb surplus production and stabilize Thai pork prices. Mr. Sittiphan Thanakiattiphinyo, President of the National Swine Breeders Association, announced that Malaysia has officially approved four Thai companies to export chilled and frozen pork and pork cuts to the country, with an estimated export value of 4 billion baht projected for 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the successful market opening is a result of Dr. Somchuan Ratnamangklanont, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, leading a delegation to negotiate the export terms with Malaysia. The negotiations involved close coordination with Malaysian authorities, allowing Thai businesses to pass a facility inspection conducted by Malaysian officials in Thailand late last year. This inspection highlighted the potential of Thailand's livestock production system in hygiene, food safety, and quality control, which adhere to international standards.
Mr. Sittiphan emphasized that opening the Malaysian market for exports will help absorb surplus production, supporting the forecast that Thailand's pork production in 2026 will reach 24.29 million head, up from 23.49 million head in 2025. This development is seen as a crucial step in stabilizing Thai pork prices.
