Phan thong: A 31-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend in a rented room in the Phan Thong District of Chonburi Province. The suspect attempted to escape but was captured by locals and rescue workers. He confessed to the crime, attributing his actions to jealousy after discovering her involvement with another man.
According to Thai News Agency, the police at Phan Thong Police Station received a report concerning a murder in Moo 1, Nong Hong Subdistrict. They promptly responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
Inside the rented room, authorities found the body of 26-year-old Ms. Piyathida lying on the bed, covered with a blanket. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Mr. Chaiwat, was restrained and tied to a pole outside the room by local residents.
Mr. Chaiwat confessed to the murder during questioning. He recounted that he had been drinking the previous night and became intoxicated. An argument ensued with his girlfriend after he discovered her interest in another man. Despite having given her several chances, her repeated behavior led him to lose his patience, resulting in him strangling her in a moment of rage.
Mr. Apichat, a 36-year-old local resident, stated that the caretaker of the rental room had called to report concerns raised by the victim's relatives, who were unable to contact her. Upon investigating, Mr. Apichat encountered Mr. Chaiwat exhibiting suspicious behavior and trying to flee. He, along with other local residents, managed to apprehend the suspect and secure him until the police arrived. Inside the room, they discovered Ms. Piyathida deceased on the bed.
Initially, the police conducted a thorough investigation of the room, collecting evidence and coordinating with rescue workers to transport the deceased's body for an autopsy to establish the cause of death. The suspect was taken into custody for further questioning and legal proceedings.
