Man Arrested After Shooting at Police and Breaking Through Checkpoint in Mueang Loei

Mueang Loei: A 39-year-old man driving a sedan broke through a checkpoint at the Pak Phu intersection in Mueang Loei District, firing at police officers before being apprehended.

According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, identified as Mr. Thiraphong, sped through the checkpoint and was eventually cornered in front of a house on the Loei-Tha Li road. After abandoning his car, he attempted to flee and engaged in a gunfight with the police. He was shot once in the right knee, which prevented his escape and led to his arrest. The incident took place at 1:30 a.m. today.

Upon searching Mr. Thiraphong’s white Honda Civic, police discovered 9 methamphetamine pills, 80 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, and a .22 caliber gun discarded near the scene. Mr. Thiraphong was then taken to the investigation officer at Muang Loei Police Station and charged with four offenses: shooting at an officer while on duty, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without permission, and driving under the influence of drugs. He is scheduled to be detained at Loei Provincial Court tomorrow.
