Chonburi: A man has been arrested for abducting and sexually assaulting a woman, claiming he was "possessed by evil spirits." Police apprehended Mr. Somchit, also known as "Nong," aged 39, following a warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court. He faces charges of rape by coercion, violence, and committing the crime while the victim was unable to resist. The arrest took place at a construction worker's camp in Ban Bueng District, Chonburi Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somchit is accused of riding a motorcycle alongside a 26-year-old female victim, dragging her into an abandoned house by the roadside, and sexually assaulting her. Upon his arrest, Mr. Somchit confessed to the crime, claiming he did not know what evil spirit possessed him. He led investigators to the motorcycle used in the incident, which he had hidden near a construction site.
During an all-night interrogation, Mr. Somchit detailed the events leading to the crime. He explained that he encountered the victim at a gas station in Nong Phai Kaeo Subdistrict while both were refueling their motorcycles. As they traveled in the same direction on Highway 331, he saw an opportunity at a secluded U-turn onto Huai Yai Road. Initially intending to rob her, he later offered to have sexual intercourse after the victim pleaded not to be harmed. He then took her to the crime scene, where she managed to escape during a moment of distraction.
Mr. Somchit expressed deep remorse for his actions, stating he has no history of drug use or criminal activity. He described his family life as warm and loving, with a wife and daughter. He stated his intent to apologize to the victim, acknowledging the pain caused to his family and himself. Despite claiming to be possessed by an evil spirit, he accepted full responsibility for his actions.
