Bangkok: MEA, or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, marks its 68th anniversary with a commitment to driving metropolitan development and delivering stable, safe electricity. Celebrated on August 1, 2026, MEA emphasized its role as a creator of energy innovations for urban lifestyles, aligning with the theme "68th MEA Powering the Future City".

According to Thai News Agency, MEA supports the Ministry of Interior's urgent policy, "Ministry of Interior Acts Immediately: Action 5 PLUS." This initiative highlights five key missions focused on upgrading infrastructure, developing digital innovations, and transitioning to a sustainable smart metropolis. Mr. Dichawat Chan-ee, Governor of MEA, stated that the organization is dedicated to enhancing services and infrastructure to elevate the public's quality of life. This includes reducing financial burdens and improving safety by converting overhead power lines to underground cables and supporting future energy trends with the Smart Metro Grid system.

MEA is also expanding the MEA EV charging station network and enhancing quality of life through initiatives like the Smart Meter Plus, which helps monitor the electricity system for patients requiring medical equipment. Additionally, MEA is committed to ecosystem care and sustainability through projects like mangrove reforestation and the MEA Energy Award, an international standard for energy-efficient buildings. This program has significantly reduced electricity consumption, resulting in financial savings and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The organization's efforts have also been directed towards educational initiatives such as MEA SPARK, the Thai Electricity Authority Museum, which showcases the history and innovations of energy towards the future. For the past 68 years, MEA has continuously developed its services, ensuring that electricity serves as a driving force for urban life and global sustainability, in line with its "Powering the Future City" concept.
