Ministry of Foreign Affairs Establishes Command Center for Foreign Tourists Amid Hat Yai Floods

Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken proactive measures to assist foreign tourists impacted by the floods in Hat Yai by establishing a dedicated command center. This center aims to gather information on the flooding situation and coordinate with Malaysia to facilitate the evacuation of tourists from the affected region.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorndej Plangkura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the government’s commitment to providing support to the people in Hat Yai District and other southern provinces facing the flood crisis. He conveyed condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives. In response to the situation, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs have postponed their scheduled visit to Malaysia to better oversee relief efforts.

The floods have also affected a significant number of tourists, especially from Malaysia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working closely with Malaysian authorities to ensure the safe evacuation of these tourists. Plans are in place to coordinate their return at an appropriate time. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has also partnered with Hat Yai Municipality to set up a 24-hour assistance center for foreign tourists.

Mr. Nikorndej highlighted that, while the flood situation remains severe, there have been no reports of Thais abroad requiring urgent assistance. The Thai Embassy continues to maintain communication with Thai nationals in various countries. Regarding potential international assistance, Mr. Nikorndej noted that there has been no request for international aid, as Thailand’s resources and domestic support remain robust.
