Money-making occupation: Change rice fields, raise carp in a pond, catch and sell for 6 months, good income.

Maha Sarakham, 22 Oct. – Today’s money-making career takes us to Maha Sarakham Province to see carp being raised in a pond. Farmers have adjusted their rice fields to experiment with carp raising. After only 6 months, they are selling them as ornamental fish, generating income of over 100,000 baht each time.

What you see here is a pond used to raise carps. Lt. Natthasan Sirikij, president of the community enterprise for carp farmers in Ban Tiew, Khao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Maha Sarakham Province, said that he initially experimented with raising them by digging just one pond. Later, he found that carps were easy to raise, grew well, and could be sold for a good price. This led him to decide to change his 5 rai rice field and dig a pond to raise carps.

Carp raising, water quality is the most important thing. Raise in a dug pond, 10 m wide, 15 m long, 80-150 cm deep, is the right size for raising and easy to catch. Because if dug lower than 80 cm, the heat from the sunlight will make the fish hot. But i
f deeper than 150 cm, it will be difficult to drag the net to get the fish. After digging the pond, the pond must be cleaned, water added and left for about 2-3 weeks. Measure the water quality to get a pH of 6.5-8, which is the appropriate value. Put a net around the pond to prevent monitor lizards and snakes. Then release the fish fry. The pond will raise the fish fry at a size of 15 baht each. They will be raised until they are big. Each pond has 3,000 fish fry, which is the right amount for the size of the pond. Therefore, no oxygen system is needed. As for food, use catfish feed with 30-35% protein and feed only once a day. Approximately 1.5 kg. or 500 grams per 1,000 fish at a time. The secret is to supplement with water hyacinth eggs every 10 days. This will make the fish grow well, have beautiful colors, and help reduce food costs. It takes about 3-6 months to raise them, with a food cost of no more than 12,000 baht per pond (if you calculate the cost of 45,000 fish, it’s 57,000 in total), but you can
sell them for more than 100,000 baht per pond, or from 15 baht per fish, you can sell them for 60 baht per fish in 6 months. – Thai News Agency
