Mother of Nong Termfan Seeks 10 Million Baht Compensation for Drunk Driving Tragedy

Lampang: The mother of Nong Termfan, a victim of a fatal drunk driving accident, is demanding 10 million baht in compensation and has refused to negotiate with the responsible party. The tragic incident has left a family in mourning and has raised awareness about the consequences of drunk driving.

According to Thai News Agency, the police questioned Ms. May, the mother of the deceased child, at Lampang Hospital. The accident occurred when Mr. Dech, an assistant village headman in Pichai Subdistrict, drove while intoxicated, striking the family as they walked along the roadside. The accident resulted in the death of 2-year-old Nong Termfan and left Ms. May with serious injuries, including a fractured leg. She is currently receiving treatment at Lampang Hospital, with surgery scheduled for the following day.

In an emotional recount, Father Duke shared that butterflies have been appearing in the hospital room since Ms. May was admitted, which he believes are a sign of Nong Termfan watching over them. The presence of the butterflies has provided some comfort to the grieving family.

During the police questioning, Ms. May demanded a compensation of 10 million baht, emphasizing that the loss of her son is irreplaceable. She has expressed her determination to seek justice through the courts, refusing any negotiation attempts from the opposing party. She stated that if responsibility had been taken from the start, she might have considered a settlement, but now it is too late.

Ms. May has instructed the hospital to restrict access to her private room, allowing only close family members to visit. This decision underscores her desire for privacy and the need to focus on her recovery.

In response to the incident, the driver involved has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death and serious injury, and property damage. This case highlights the severe repercussions of drunk driving and the need for accountability.
