Samut sakhon: A motorcycle delivery thief executed a daring robbery at a renowned gold shop in Samut Sakhon, escaping with 23 baht weight of gold valued at nearly 1.6 million baht. The incident occurred in a popular shopping mall in the Ekachai area of Mueang Samut Sakhon district.
According to Thai News Agency, the robbery unfolded at approximately 7:40 PM on May 1st, 2026. The 191 police radio center of the Samut Sakhon Provincial Police was alerted to the robbery at the Yaowarat Bangkok gold shop. A lone gunman, described as a male around 170 centimeters tall, entered the shop wearing a rider's jacket and a balaclava. Brandishing an automatic handgun, he threatened employees before leaping over a glass display case to seize the gold jewelry. Employees, who were visibly shaken, sought refuge behind the counter and attempted to escape.
After securing the jewelry, the suspect fled the scene by descending the mall's escalator to the first floor and escaping on a motorcycle. The stolen gold, weighing over 23 baht, was estimated to be worth approximately 1,610,000 baht.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Pisit Tanprasert, Commander of Provincial Police Region 7, visited the crime scene and directed immediate action. An investigative team from Khok Kham Police Station, Samut Sakhon Provincial Police, and Provincial Police Region 7 was formed to trace the suspect's escape route and coordinate with nearby areas for a swift apprehension. The forensic team was also tasked with collecting evidence, including latent fingerprints and witness statements, to aid in the prosecution of the suspect.
