Bangkok: The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has affirmed that the development of the 2025 basic education curriculum will be voluntary and not mandatory across the nation, addressing concerns that children might be used as guinea pigs.
According to Thai News Agency, OBEC clarified that the initiative will be implemented in 4,383 pilot schools on a voluntary basis. The commission emphasized that it is not enforcing the curriculum nationwide and that the program does not involve using children as test subjects.
OBEC addressed claims circulating about the Basic Education Curriculum B.E. 2568 (2025), which suggested it was implemented without legal backing, causing confusion among schools, teachers, and parents. The commission has issued a statement to clear up the confusion, asserting that the information being spread was incomplete and could lead to public misunderstanding.
The development of the curriculum is a pilot program, only involving schools that are prepared and willing to participate. OBEC reassures that there is no immediate nationwide enforcement of the new curriculum.
