Bangkok: The National Police Chief has openly expressed his distress over accusations targeting the police force as a major crime hub, describing these claims as unacceptable and violent. Despite the attacks, he remains committed to adhering to the Prime Minister’s policy aimed at tackling the scammer problem. Following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with 15 agencies, he emphasized the importance of increasing the availability of protective measures for the public and stressed the necessity of cutting back on facilities, regardless of the individual’s position.
According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittirat Panpetch, the National Police Chief, addressed the media during the MOU signing ceremony, which involved 15 agencies declaring their commitment to combat scammers. The Royal Thai Police has been under scrutiny as one of the targeted law enforcement agencies since the Prime Minister labeled technological fraud as a national threat that harms the economy and citizens’ livelihoods. The MOU underlines the collaborative effort to tackle this agenda.
Police General Kittirat highlighted the dedication of civil servants working in two dimensions: external and internal matters. He clarified that the incidents did not occur within Thailand but in a neighboring country, where Thailand is coordinating with Interpol and the United Nations to combat related crimes such as fraud, scams, call centers, and human trafficking. Thailand is facilitating the return of fugitives for questioning, with cooperation from relevant agencies and foreign countries playing a crucial role.
Since the ASEAN Police Meeting began on November 4th, international cooperation has been commendable, with discussions on distinguishing victims from perpetrators. Domestically, the Royal Thai Police is focusing on prevention by promoting public awareness. Police General Kittirat emphasized the importance of addressing organized crime’s root causes, urging the destruction of infrastructure used for criminal activities. He also ordered rigorous screening by the Immigration Police to prevent irregularities.
The National Police Chief assured that decisive legal action would be taken against any wrongdoers within the organization, aligning with the Prime Minister’s directives to maintain public welfare. He emphasized the seriousness of accusations labeling the police as a major criminal organization and reiterated his commitment to addressing them legally while upholding government policies.
Police General Kittirat concluded by affirming the Royal Thai Police’s resolve to work diligently and support the Prime Minister’s initiatives despite the ongoing challenges and accusations against the force.
