Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the National Security Council indicated that the recent unrest in the southern regions is a symbolic retaliation by local groups following the government's intensified crackdown efforts. He clarified that the BRN is not being blamed for these incidents and assured that comprehensive security measures will be in place for the upcoming Cabinet meeting in Songkhla at the end of August.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council, discussed the situation after convening with security agencies in response to the violent incidents across several southern border provinces. He explained that these attacks are perceived as symbolic acts of retaliation against the government's increased measures, particularly following the deaths of five paramilitary soldiers. Mr. Bangchawad also mentioned that illegal activities and crimes in the area might be contributing factors, and therefore, it is premature to attribute these attacks solely to the BRN group.

The government has reiterated its confidence regarding the Cabinet meeting in Songkhla later this month, emphasizing that all necessary preparations to ensure security are in place. It further suggested that the incidents occurring within a local administrative organization might be indicative of a localized issue.
