Bangkok: National Thai Language Day, commemorated annually on July 29, originated from a significant event in 1962 when His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great attended an academic conference at Chulalongkorn University. During this event, the King delivered a royal address emphasizing the importance of preserving and correctly using the Thai language as a reflection of national identity and cultural heritage.

According to Thai News Agency, in recognition of His Majesty's dedication to the Thai language, the Cabinet resolved on July 13, 1999, to officially designate July 29 as National Thai Language Day. This day serves to honor the King's benevolent efforts and to instill in the Thai people, particularly the youth, an awareness of the value of their national language.

The observance of National Thai Language Day aims to encourage the preservation and proper use of the Thai language. It seeks to inspire children, young people, and the general public to appreciate and uphold the language as an invaluable cultural asset for future generations.
