Nearly 200 cars were damaged on asphalt.

Heavy criticism of road repair project in Trang Province. The contractor poured asphalt without warning road users or closing the road, causing damage to nearly 200 cars driving through. The municipality ordered immediate repairs and compensation for those affected.

Trang Municipality is the owner of the asphalt concrete road improvement project on the road parallel to the railway (south) or what the locals call Wang To Railway Road, with a private company as the contractor with a budget of 6,030,000 baht. It turned out that since approximately 3:00 p.m. on October 12, the contractor has been paving the entire road with asphalt. However, it turned out that the road was not closed and there were no signs prohibiting use of the road or any warning signs. Therefore, the people using the road were not aware that asphalt was being paved and drove onto the road, causing the asphalt on the road surface to stick to the tires of both cars and motorcycles. It also caused the asphalt on the tires to bounce up and stick
to the undercarriage of the car, under the wheel arches and the paint surface of the car, causing damage to almost 200 properties. They also went to file a complaint and record the daily log as evidence at Trang City Police Station.

The latest yesterday (13 Oct) the Trang Municipality Facebook page posted a message. Dr. Sanya Sriwichian, Mayor of Trang Municipality, ordered immediate solutions and compensation for those affected. He ordered immediate solutions and instructed all responsible parties to strictly take action. He ordered the contractor to make vinyl signs ‘Closed Road, No Entry’ according to construction standards to be installed at 3 road entrances: Kantang Road, Khlong Nam Chet Road, and Wang To Road. He also ordered steel panels or barriers to be installed to block off the road construction area since the evening of 12 Oct.

For the victims, if there is a claim for damages, the municipality is willing to coordinate with the contractor to compensate for the damages and provide relief. The cont
ractor was called to a meeting about the case on October 15 to find a way to provide relief to the affected people. There are still victims of the incident who have continuously filed a complaint and recorded the daily log as evidence.

One victim said that after work, he rode his motorcycle home and came across the road. There were no warning signs. He rode in and felt that his motorcycle was soft when it touched the ground. He stopped the car and got out to look. It turned out that there was asphalt all over his wheels and a pair of shoes worth over 1,000 baht, so he had to throw them away. He rode home and sat down to scrape off the asphalt, but it didn’t come off completely, so he took his motorcycle to a car wash. He paid over 500 baht, but the stains couldn’t be completely removed. He wanted the responsible person to come out and compensate for the damages and lost time to the many victims.

While the atmosphere at the car care shop in Trang Municipality was lively, many victims brought their cars in fo
r the shop to remove the asphalt stains. Villagers lost money on removing the stains. Motorcycles start at 500 baht, cars start at 1,000 baht and go up to 3,000 baht.

Mr. Atsit, 42 years old, owner of Pom Car Care, said that since the incident, there have been no less than 30 customers coming to inquire and bring their cars in. However, the shop cannot accept that many because once the stains are removed from the first few cars, it is clear that they are difficult to remove. Some cars require up to 6 hours to completely remove them.
