Bangkok: A social alert has been raised after a 21-year-old woman experienced a terrifying ordeal when her neighbor broke into her home in the middle of the night. The neighbor, claiming to hear deafening voices, attempted to force open the woman's bedroom, leading her to move out. The incident has also prompted criticism of the police's slow response.
According to Thai News Agency, a security camera captured footage of the male neighbor climbing over the fence of the rented house at 00:35 AM. Armed with a long stick, he broke into the house, walked around, and attempted to pry open a window and kick open the bedroom door where the woman was inside. Despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful. The woman cried for help, prompting the man to sit down, apologize, and claim he was hallucinating before leaving the premises.
CCTV footage later showed the same man returning to the house at 4:15 AM, wearing a black long-sleeved jacket and carrying a stick. He opened the bedroom door but left without any belongings, as the door was securely locked. The victim's sister, Ms. San, 32, expressed concerns over the police's slow response, noting that repeated calls to local police stations went unanswered, and help was delayed despite coordinating efforts.
Ms. San recounted how she reviewed the CCTV footage through her mobile phone and saw the man trying to enter her sister's bedroom. Despite efforts to reach authorities and the village's community, assistance was not immediate due to nighttime conditions and heavy rain. The family had to file a police report the following day, as initial attempts were only recorded in the daily log.
Police eventually spoke with the neighbor, who offered 10,000 baht in compensation, which the family declined. The man claimed he was coerced into drug use by friends, and the family believes the incident is linked to drug abuse. They insist on his rehabilitation and a medical certificate for the complaint to be withdrawn. The family emphasizes the seriousness of the trespass and its potential threat to society, asserting that this was not merely a case of hallucination but a dangerous intrusion.
