Nikorn Chamnong Confirms Chartthaipattana Party’s Continuity and Leadership Nomination Plans

Bangkok: Nikorn Chamnong, Director of the Chartthaipattana Party, announced at a press conference that the party will not be dissolved but will undergo a strategic adjustment. He is planning to nominate former party leader Kanchana Silpa-archa to return to her leadership position.

According to Thai News Agency, Nikorn emphasized that the decision to maintain the party’s presence is a response to the challenges faced by smaller political entities. He detailed the rationale behind the MPs’ decision to collaborate with the larger Bhumjaithai Party, citing four primary reasons for this strategic alliance. Firstly, the limitations faced by smaller parties in elections and legislative processes have hindered the Chartthaipattana Party’s ability to effectively propose bills and policies. With a requirement of at least 20 MPs to propose legislation, the party struggled with only 10, necessitating dependence on other parties for support.

Additionally, Nikorn highlighted the difficulties in addressing public hardships, particularly during crises such as natural disasters and economic downturns. He argued that joining forces with the Bhumjaithai Party would enhance their capacity to deliver timely and effective solutions to the public’s problems.

Nikorn also pointed out the symbolic alignment with the Bhumjaithai Party, as both parties uphold the monarchy, represented by the color blue. This shared value is seen as strengthening their political unity and loyalty, fostering a stronger sense of national solidarity.

Lastly, Nikorn referenced Mr. Banharn Silpa-archa’s legacy in creating the 1997 constitution, noting that the current collaboration aims to leverage the Bhumjaithai Party’s parliamentary strength to pursue a new people’s constitution. The historical ties between the two parties, filled with former Chartthaipattana members, promise a seamless integration of policies and operations.

Nikorn confirmed discussions with Ms. Kanchana Silpa-archa regarding her return to leadership, stating that she has accepted the nomination proposal. The party’s general meeting will formally present her candidacy, reinforcing the commitment to continue Chartthaipattana’s political journey.
