No escape! Cambodian woman arrested for snatching a Naga necklace

A Cambodian woman in debt ran away with a 40,000 baht Naga necklace. In the end, she couldn’t get away with it. People in the market helped to track her down and arrest her.

CCTV footage clearly captured the moment when a Cambodian woman pretended to buy a necklace, looked at it, but when she saw the opportunity, she smoothly ran out of the gold shop. The incident occurred at a gold and jewelry shop in a market in Bang Chalong Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. People who were walking around the market helped to arrest her before patrol officers and investigation officers from Bang Phli Police Station traveled to investigate and found Ms. Sreino Cho, 32 years old, a Cambodian national, being detained by people along with evidence of 3 gold and silver necklaces, worth a total of approximately 40,000 baht, in the hands of the suspect.

From questioning Ms. Sreino Cho, she said that she is a chicken farmer who traveled from Kabin Buri District, Sa Kaeo Province this morning to find her aun
t who lives not far from the scene of the incident, but she did not find her. She therefore traveled to the market because she used to sell gold at this market. She pretended to ask to see the three Naga necklaces. When she saw the opportunity, she grabbed the gold and ran away until she was caught by the villagers and children in the shop in the parking lot. The reason she committed the crime was because she owed 60,000 baht from a loan shark and had no money to pay off the debt she had borrowed to raise her two children. Her husband did not help her. She already knew that the Naga necklaces were valuable. If she took them back to her country to sell, the price would be high enough to pay off the debt. Therefore, she committed the crime and was caught.

Mr. Prawat, the shop owner, said that before the incident, the perpetrator pretended to come to the shop to ask to see the Naga necklace. The shop staff brought 3 Naga necklaces for the perpetrator to see. Then, the perpetrator took the moment when the staff
were not paying attention, grabbed the 3 Naga necklaces and ran away. Then, the staff shouted for help from people in the market.

Pol. Col. Pairoj Petchploy, Superintendent of Bang Phli Police Station, said that yesterday at approximately 1:39 p.m., a suspect, a Cambodian national aged 32, snatched three gold necklaces and escaped before being arrested. During questioning, he said that he was in debt and working in Prachin Buri Province. He came to visit relatives here to borrow money, but since he had not seen his relatives, he committed the crime. When asked why he stole the gold necklaces, he replied that he had no knowledge about gold or gold necklaces, but thought they had value.

From asking the shop, they said that the Naga would be valuable if sold in Cambodia. Therefore, if he gets it and sells it in Cambodia, it can be exchanged for money. The value of the first and second lines is 15,000 baht each, and the third line is 10,000 baht, totaling 40,000 baht. Because it was an act of snatching, they pr
essed charges of stealing someone else’s property, even though he has a work permit in Thailand.
