No Soldiers Shot During Flood Relief Efforts in Songkhla, Confirms 4th Army Region Commander

Hat yai: The 4th Army Region Commander has confirmed that no soldiers were shot and killed while assisting with flood relief efforts in the Hat Yai District of Songkhla Province. The commander clarified that threats were made by local residents towards private sector aid workers, rather than any actual violence occurring.

According to Thai News Agency, on November 27, 2015, Lt. Gen. Narathip Poynok, Commander of the Fourth Army Region, addressed the situation, confirming that soldiers involved in the flood relief operations were unharmed. However, private sector relief workers faced threats from local residents. To manage the situation, flood relief units have been instructed to report to the Forward Flood Emergency Operations Center (FOCOC) at Wing 56 in Songkhla Province. These units will be escorted to the affected areas and will coordinate with community leaders and unit commanders.

The Commander also highlighted the ongoing discussions regarding the possession of firearms by individuals during the enforcement of the Emergency Decree. Measures to address this issue are being considered in coordination with community representatives and unit commanders in the areas affected by the flooding.
