Bangkok: The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and Thammasat University have partnered to advance the RUSH program, Phase 2, aimed at creating a network of researchers and enhancing the application of their work to practical use.
According to Thai News Agency, this initiative involves the development of a capacity-building curriculum and research ethics in the humanities and social sciences. Supported by NRCT, the second phase of the "Capacity-Building and Research Ethics in Humanities and Social Sciences (RUSH)" training course is focused on promoting and disseminating research pertinent to each region's context and supporting promising project proposals to achieve tangible outcomes.
Associate Professor Dr. Sunida Arunpipat, from the Faculty of Political Science at Thammasat University, leads the project. She emphasized the project's goals, noting that the initiative is a commendable effort by NRCT to strengthen networks and enhance the capabilities of personnel in the humanities and social sciences. The first phase's success, where researchers secured funding for practical research, sets a positive precedent for this year's efforts to apply research practically and elevate national development.
The training commenced with opening remarks from Ms. Sirinporn Diaotrakul, Deputy Director of NRCT, and congratulations from Dr. Tech Bunnag, Secretary-General of the Thai Red Cross Society. Dr. Bunnag highlighted the importance of understanding both local and global contexts and effectively utilizing cultural diversity and social capital. He stressed the need for researchers to collaborate with various sectors and communicate their knowledge to policymakers and the public.
Ms. Kaewket Thawornphan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Senate, also congratulated the participants, noting the training's role in driving the practical application of research for the country's tangible development. She commended the course for its commitment to utilizing research in fields such as public policy, social and community development, and commerce.
Professor Emeritus Dr. Anek Laothamatas, former Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, delivered a keynote address on 'Social Sciences and Humanities in the Thai Context.' He emphasized the need to develop a distinctive form of social sciences that adapts Western models to suit Thailand's context and resources. Dr. Laothamatas also highlighted the importance of creating a Thai-style diplomatic approach.
The RUSH Phase 2 training program is scheduled for Bangkok and other regions, comprising four sessions. It marks the first time the training will be held in Bangkok, allowing selected personnel from across the country to participate. The four-day blended training combines online and on-site sessions, providing participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills development. Following this, participants will have a month to refine their project proposals, with continuous progress monitoring and a final presentation to experts scheduled later.
