Officials and Locals Rescue Nearly 500 Pigs from Floodwaters in Hat Yai.

Hat Yai: Officials and locals rallied together to assist in the relocation of nearly 500 pigs that were left stranded due to severe flooding in Hat Yai, marking a significant effort as the city begins to overcome its flood crisis. The pigs, initially trapped and floating in floodwaters, were part of a farm in Chana District, Songkhla Province, where the flood had caused substantial damages.

According to Thai News Agency, the flooding at the pig farm resulted in more than 480 pigs, valued at over 4 million baht, being left adrift, along with approximately 300,000 baht worth of recently delivered pig feed that is at risk of damage. A flat-bottomed boat from a local unit was dispatched to survey the flooded area, where officials and villagers worked together to rescue over 10 pigs and retrieve 3-4 deceased ones. However, the effort to move the pigs out of their pens remains on hold, as the receding water levels are insufficient for vehicles to access the area.

In Hat Yai, the flood situation has shown signs of
improvement as the crisis begins to subside. Economic zones and surrounding areas have started to see a decrease in water levels. Although there is still flooding in the inner lowlands, including both municipal and community areas near Wat Hat Yai Nai, the water level has been gradually decreasing. The municipality has deployed officials to assist in cleaning up homes where the water has retreated.
