Bangkok: Thank you to the more than 4,000 volunteers who mobilized to help with the flood recovery in Hat Yai. The Commander of the Volunteer Defense Corps expressed gratitude and commended the sacrifice of over 4,000 corps members involved in the flood recovery efforts in Hat Yai District. The troops have now been sent back to their bases to continue their duties aimed at alleviating suffering and promoting the well-being of the people.
According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Arsit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and Assistant Commander of the Volunteer Defense Corps, revealed the scale of the disaster caused by the massive floods in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. The floods led to damage impacting over 200,000 households throughout Hat Yai Municipality and its surrounding areas. In response, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, General Anutin Charnvirakul, acting as Commander of the Volunteer Defense Corps, initially deployed 2,012 Volunteer Defense Corps members. The number was later increased by an additional 2,000 personnel, bringing the total to 4,012 volunteers from across the country to expedite the restoration of normalcy in Hat Yai District.
The situation in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, has now returned to normal, prompting the Volunteer Defense Corps Command to redeploy its personnel back to their respective provincial headquarters across all 76 provinces.
Simultaneously, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Volunteer Defense Corps, communicated his gratitude and admiration for the sacrifices of all volunteers through a fax sent to all Volunteer Defense Corps commanders nationwide. This message, which included a handwritten note, served as a morale booster from the supreme commander to the troops, complementing his recent visits and inspections during the flood recovery efforts.
Colonel Arsit further emphasized that the Volunteer Defense Corps Command remains committed to its mission of alleviating suffering and enhancing the well-being of the people, in line with government and Ministry of Interior policies. Currently, in the Thai-Cambodian border provinces, Volunteer Defense Corps members are collaborating with Village Security Teams (VSTs) to implement rear area protection plans and provide comprehensive support to the local population.
