Parliament Approves 2027 Budget Act with Overwhelming Majority

Bangkok: The parliament has successfully passed the Budget Act for the fiscal year 2027, with a decisive vote of 338 to 144. This significant legislative move was made during a special session of the House of Representatives, presided over by Speaker Sophon Saram. The approved budget totals 3.78 trillion baht. According to Thai News Agency, the session marked the fourth consecutive day of deliberations on the draft Budget Act, which had been meticulously prepared by an ad hoc committee. The house members debated and voted on all 41 articles of the draft during the second reading, culminating in the conclusion of these proceedings. The pivotal vote took place at 8:35 PM, with Agenda Item 3 on the docket. The result was a clear majority, with 338 members in favor, 144 against, 2 abstentions, and 1 member not participating in the vote. This outcome underscored the strong support for the fiscal plan.
