Pattaya Prepares Measures to Cope with and Prevent the Nipah Virus

Pattaya: Pattaya is preparing to deal with and prevent the spread of the Nipah virus, intensifying measures to protect tourist attractions after five cases were reported in India.

According to Thai News Agency, five cases of the Nipah virus have been found in India. The infected individuals are male and female nurses working at a private hospital in Barasat, near the capital Kolkata. As a result, authorities have quarantined nearly 100 people in the eastern state of West Bengal as a preventative measure.

The infected individuals have been sent to an infectious disease hospital in Belegata, east of Kolkata, and some are in the ICU of a private hospital. The West Bengal Ministry of Health reported that the male nurse's condition has improved, but the female patient remains in critical condition.

Within Thailand, awareness of this issue is growing. In Pattaya, reporters visited Walking Street and found large groups of Indian tourists. Relevant authorities are urgently implementing strict monitoring measures. Pattaya residents themselves admit to being shocked and afraid of this new virus. They urge everyone to be cautious and wear masks when leaving their homes.
