Bangkok: The People's Party (PPP) has announced an attempted breach of its membership database, prompting the party to enhance its security protocols and issue a warning to members. The breach, which did not affect financial information, led to the exposure of names and national ID numbers.
According to Thai News Agency, the People's Party first became aware of the intrusion attempts on February 23, leading to immediate actions to safeguard the party's information systems. These actions included blocking further intrusion attempts, upgrading the security of the network, and notifying the Personal Data Protection Commission (PPC) in line with legal requirements.
Further information received on March 10 indicated that the breach could impact members' rights and freedoms, prompting the party to inform affected members and report updated findings to the PPC. The investigation revealed that the breach was limited to personal data associated with the membership application process, and no other party systems-such as password, complaint, feedback, or donation systems-were affected.
In an official statement issued via the party's Facebook page, the PPP urged its members to take precautionary measures. These include being vigilant against impersonation attempts, regularly checking credit and transaction histories, and changing passwords associated with the compromised data. The party has offered channels for members to contact its data protection officer for further assistance.
The People's Party has expressed sincere apologies for the incident, emphasizing its commitment to protecting members' personal data and reinforcing trust through robust security measures. The party continues to investigate the incident to determine the full extent of the breach and to prevent future occurrences.
