Petition to Dissolve Bhumjaithai Party Under Processing, Says Election Commission

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has confirmed that the petition to dissolve the Bhumjaithai Party is currently being processed. The commission also addressed allegations made by Kusumalawatee Sirikomut, stating that there is no obstruction to the formation of a political party.

According to Thai News Agency, the ECT addressed a complaint by Ms. Kusumalawatee Sirikomut, who alleged that the commission is stalling the petition to dissolve the Bhumjaithai Party and obstructing the establishment of a new political party. The Election Commission clarified that the petition to dissolve the Bhumjaithai Party is being processed in compliance with the commission's regulations. These regulations pertain to the collection of facts and evidence by the Registrar of Political Parties, as outlined in B.E. 2566 (2023).

The ECT also investigated the allegations of obstructing the establishment of a new party. It was found that Ms. Kusumalawatee Sirikomut had never submitted an application to establish a political party under the Political Parties Act. However, she did notify the Registrar of Political Parties about her attendance at an extraordinary general meeting of the Palang Prachathipatai Party, which aimed to amend the party's regulations and executive committee. Following this, the party leader requested the withdrawal of the meeting, which the Registrar of Political Parties approved. As a result, the claims made by Ms. Kusumalawatee Sirikomut were deemed unfounded.
