Bangkok: The Phetkasem Police Station, dubbed “Bite and Never Let Go,” has been lauded for its relentless pursuit of a scam network that spans both Chinese and Thai criminal elements, uncovering financial transactions worth billions of baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Asst. Prof. Dr. Noppadon Kannika, a former member of the National Police Policy Committee and advisor to the Royal Thai Police, reported that the Phetkasem team, under the leadership of Pol. Col. Pramote Chanboonkaew, has made significant strides in dismantling a transnational scam network. This effort was part of a broader government initiative to combat scam gangs, spearheaded by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and implemented by Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police. The investigation revealed a financial flow exceeding 1 billion baht, linking criminal operations between Thailand and China.
The Phetkasem team, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Dendanai Wattanawijitnon, known as the “Mad Dog,” has been particularly effective in this operation. Within a short span of one to two months, the team recovered over 1,000,000 baht for victims through their cyber operations. Their investigation uncovered a hidden financial network involving both Thai and Chinese gangs, which is still under further scrutiny with relevant agencies to trace the origins and destinations of the laundered funds.
The operation’s success can be attributed to the leadership of Pol. Col. Pramote Chanboonkaew and the field operations team headed by Pol. Lt. Col. Dendanai Wattanawijitnon, along with officers like Police Senior Sergeant Major Ekkayuth Plongkong. The team utilized a comprehensive approach, integrating investigations, financial transaction analysis, and technological tools. Recently, they apprehended a second-ranked Chinese smuggling boss and two Thai smuggling bosses, seizing over 1.4 million baht in cash intended to be laundered into USDT and transferred to the Chinese network.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Noppadon further shared that one suspect, upon seeing Pol. Lt. Col. Dendanai, exclaimed, “I got scammed!” indicating the fear criminals have for the “Mad Dog.” This officer’s dedication to ensuring justice for victims has earned him a reputation as a hero among those he has helped. Under the strategic guidance of Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet and Pol. Maj. Gen. Wasan Techa-akrakasem, the Phetkasem team has demonstrated their capability in handling complex transnational scams, achieving what is considered a world-class accomplishment for a local Thai police station.
