Philippines Declares National Disaster Over Typhoon Kalmaegi Impact

Manila: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a national disaster due to the impact of Typhoon Kalmaegi and in preparation for another approaching typhoon.

According to Thai News Agency, Marcos stated that the declaration followed a proposal from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee. The committee assessed the extensive damage caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi and the potential impact of Typhoon Fung-wong, leading to the decision to declare a national disaster.

Kalmaegi, identified as the 20th typhoon to strike the Philippines in 2025, exited the country early Thursday, leaving a trail of devastation. Official reports confirmed at least 140 casualties with 127 individuals still missing. The typhoon severely affected over 500,000 households, impacting more than 1.9 million Filipinos.

The national disaster declaration aims to expedite response and recovery efforts as the country braces for the effects of Typhoon Fung-wong. Authorities are mobilizing resources to provide aid to the affected regions and to ensure preparedness for the incoming storm.
