Phuket: The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has summoned Mr. Somchart Techathaworncharoen, a Member of Parliament from Phuket representing the People's Democratic Reform Committee, to clarify allegations concerning land and real estate ownership through foreign nominees. The investigation, based on collected evidence, is devoid of malicious intent.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Nawarat, the Minister of Justice, emphasized that the DSI has been gathering evidence for a considerable period. The investigation into Mr. Somchart's alleged use of nominees to hold shares on behalf of foreigners in Phuket is being conducted with fairness, allowing him the opportunity to provide clarification. The DSI has completed its investigation, focusing primarily on forensic evidence, with limited reliance on witness testimony.

Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol mentioned that it remains unclear whether the DSI initiated the investigation independently or if it was prompted by a formal complaint, although local media in Phuket have reported on the issue. He noted that the investigation should not be perceived as political persecution, even though the People's Party is investigating collusion among senators. He asserted that the allegations concern wrongdoing and are aligned with government policy, emphasizing that the process does not imply guilt.

Furthermore, regarding the forex trading scandal involving Mr. Pawut Pongwitthayaphanu, a list MP from the People's Party, Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol confirmed that the DSI is actively gathering evidence. While a timeframe for submitting the case file exists, details remain unspecified. The DSI is authorized to proceed with the indictment directly, bypassing the Ministry of Justice.
