Pipat Mobilizes to Help with Flooding in the South, Over 43,000 Relief Bags Delivered

Bangkok: “Phiphat” mobilized all transport units to fully assist with flood relief in the South, restoring routes, revitalizing cities, and revitalizing people’s lives. Over 43,000 relief bags have been delivered. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, revealed progress in flood relief efforts in the South. He stated that the Ministry of Transport has continuously mobilized all agencies involved in the area, including roads, rail, public transportation, aviation, and shipping. He also provided relief packages to ensure people can return to their daily lives and travel as quickly as possible.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pipat said, “This weekend, I’m urging all departments under my jurisdiction to expedite their efforts to the area, as this is the time when people are beginning to recover. The Ministry of Transport must help them get back on their feet as quickly as possible. This includes opening routes, restoring public utilities, repairing the railway system, caring for flooded vehicles, and arranging transportation for people. Over 57,000 relief bags have been packed, with over 43,541 bags already delivered.”

The Department of Highways has deployed 52 heavy machinery units from the central government, along with 24 field units per day, to expedite road clearing and infrastructure restoration in flood-affected areas, particularly in Hat Yai City, which has been widely affected. They have installed six temporary steel bridges, totaling 138 meters in length, to allow immediate travel. They are also collecting 220-260 tons of garbage and mud daily, helping communities clean up their homes and reopen shops.

The State Railway of Thailand is accelerating the restoration of the railway and Hat Yai Junction Station, which are important nodes of the southern transportation system. A Big Cleaning Day activity was organized with more than 400 employees and volunteers. Railway repairs on the Phatthalung-Hat Yai section are expected to be completed by December 7th, with the full southern line to Su-ngai Kolok scheduled to open on December 14th.

The Department of Land Transport has established a center to provide inspection and basic repair services to damaged vehicles, totaling over 333 cases. Shuttle services are also being provided in the Hat Yai area, connecting people to important locations.

The Marine Department, Airports of Thailand (AOT), Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, and the Department of Airports are collaborating to deliver drinking water, pack relief bags, and monitor airports in high-risk areas. All agencies are working together to ensure a return to normalcy and allow people to travel, earn a living, and return to a stable life.
