Mae sot: Police are actively searching for a gunman who shot and seriously wounded a police officer in Mae Sot. Hundreds of armed officers are involved in the manhunt for Myanmar nationals linked to an illegal arms trafficking gang. According to Thai News Agency, two Myanmar nationals, part of a gun trafficking gang operating across the Mae Sot border, were apprehended during a sting operation near a convenience store on the Mae Sot-Umphang road in Tak province. During the arrest, a suspect used a handgun to shoot Police Sergeant Seksan Kanka, 51, a squad leader in the Mae Sot police station's crime prevention and suppression unit. The bullet caused serious injury, penetrating his abdomen. After surgery, he is no longer in critical condition but will be monitored for the next 24 hours. Following the shooting, poli ce arrested Mr. Min Zaw Thu, 20, a Myanmar national, at the scene for further questioning. Another suspect, Mr. Nyaing, 20, also a Myanmar national, is believed to be fleeing towards the Thai-Myanmar border after abandoning his motorcycle during a shootout with police. Throughout last night and into this morning, Mae Sot Police Station, in collaboration with Border Patrol Police Unit 346, Mae Sot district officials, and the Rajamanu Task Force, have been conducting armed searches in the area. Despite their efforts, the fleeing suspect has not been located yet. Authorities have adjusted their strategy, posting the suspect's photograph on social media to enlist public assistance. They are urging anyone who sees him to report immediately to their community leader. Coordination with neighboring countries is ongoing to help capture the suspect. Checkpoints remain on both main and secondary routes along the border, with armed teams deployed on foot into target areas. Authorities are ready to take decisive action if the suspects engage in another shootout with officers.
