Bangkok: Police are urgently hunting for a suspect in a gold shop robbery on Sukhumvit 50, noting similarities in modus operandi to a gold shop robbery in the Rama IV area seven years ago. The motorcycle used was found to have been stolen and modified to deceive authorities. Police believe the suspect is still in Bangkok.
According to Thai News Agency, the latest update as of February 4th from the Bangkok Metropolitan Police investigation team in the manhunt for the robber who stole over 100 baht weight of gold, valued at 15 million baht, from a prominent shopping mall in Sukhumvit Soi 50, indicates that images of the suspect, nicknamed "Jackie," have surfaced. The suspect's modus operandi, including before, during, and after the robbery, as well as his escape route, are similar to that of the "Straw Hat Robber" who stole 198 baht weight of gold and 170,000 baht in cash in the Phra Khanong area. Therefore, it is suspected that this is the same suspect.
Regarding the pursuit of the suspect who escaped by floating in the Prawet Buriram canal, police currently have a lead that the suspect emerged from the canal, wet and walking away with the bag containing the stolen gold, before mysteriously disappearing. Police have now found clues that the suspect is still in Bangkok and are in the process of tracking him down.
The motorcycle used by the perpetrator in the crime and escape was found to have been stolen from near Wat Saket in the Samran Rat Police Station area on December 31st. The victim filed a police report on January 1st, identifying the motorcycle as a red-brown Honda Scoopy i with license plate 1 KS 7989 Lopburi.
Police, who tracked down and seized the motorcycle, found that the perpetrator had modified it by changing the color to gray and red.
