Pattani: Police are hunting for the perpetrator who planted a bomb on a motorcycle. Looking at the situation in the southern border provinces, last night (September 10, 2026), an incident occurred in Pattani province where perpetrators planted an explosive device in a motorcycle. The explosion caused minor injuries to four officers.
According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage captured one suspect riding a motorcycle rigged with an explosive device and parking it on the side of Highway 42 in Mayo District, Pattani Province. He then dismounted and walked into the roadside bushes before the motorcycle exploded. This happened just as an armored police vehicle from Mayo Police Station was passing by. The explosion damaged the vehicle and caused minor injuries to four officers, who experienced ringing in their ears and chest tightness. All are now in stable condition.
This morning, authorities continue to cordon off the area for security reasons. Explosives disposal units and forensic teams are examining the scene and collecting evidence to establish a connection to the perpetrators. Fragments of a motorcycle are scattered throughout the area. CCTV footage shows the suspect wearing a short-sleeved white shirt and what appears to be a sarong, carrying a shoulder bag, parking the motorcycle by the roadside, and then fleeing into the woods under the cover of darkness. Initially, it is suspected that this was the work of a separatist group aiming to harm authorities in retaliation for the killing of two suspects in a shootout in the Tawe mountain range in Narathiwat province on September 9th.
Regarding the progress in Narathiwat province, after security forces killed two armed leaders in a shootout on the Tawe mountain range in Cho Airong district, authorities have cleared the area and brought the bodies of the two men, Mr. Useng Mama, 46, and Mr. Useng Cheming, 37, down from the mountain. Investigations revealed they were linked to the armed attack and bombing of the Bukeh Sami checkpoint in Raengae district on July 22nd, and the bombing of a PTT gas station in Raengae district on January 10th.
In addition, the two have a combined total of nine arrest warrants, including those for the 2016 seizure of the Cho Airong Hospital, the bombing and ambush of police officers in Cho Airong, the bombing attack on a military ranger company in Raengae District, and the bombing of officials while they were inspecting a base of insurgent groups in the Tawe mountain range.
At the site of the clashes on the mountain, authorities seized a large quantity of evidence, including M16 assault rifles, AK-47 rifles, M16 and AK-47 magazines, one ready-to-use improvised explosive device (IED) packed in a PVC pipe, survival equipment for camping, a gas stove, and medicine.
