Pork Prices Rise in Response to Flood Impact

Chonburi:Farm-gate pork prices have increased by 4 baht following a period of stability since the beginning of the month. The Chonburi Swine Farmers' Cooperative, along with the National Swine Breeders' Association, announced the price hike effective today.

According to Thai News Agency, the recommended farm-gate price for live pigs has risen to between 66-74 baht per kilogram from the previous 62-70 baht. This change comes amidst challenges such as flooding and weak consumer purchasing power which have exerted pressure on prices.

The National Swine Breeders' Association highlighted that recent flooding in areas like Bangkok has impacted consumer spending and affected pig farms, contributing to the price increase. Although the flood situation is now subsiding, it is hoped that this will help in boosting consumer demand and purchasing power.

Despite the flooding affecting around 9,000 pigs, the Department of Internal Trade noted that this is a small fraction of the typical market supply, which sees nearly 2 million pigs monthly. The overall supply remains sufficient to meet consumer needs.
